Another solid run at DRP

8-12: Ryan and the 80 car headed back out to Dells Raceway Park for the 3rd race in the Alive for Five series. We struggled to find speed a bit in practice, but kept working on the car throughout the practices and qualifying session. Ryan qualified P10 which put us starting P3 in the qualifying position heat race. We finished P2 in that race, which meant the 80 started the 125 lap feature in P3.

The 125 lap feature was quite an eventful one for the 80 car, but the car was decent as the runs went on. Ryan ended having to go to the rear with about 60 laps left and was able to work his way from P16 all the way to a P6 finish, on the bumper of the 17 for P5. That finish puts up P7 in the series points and we look forward to the next Alive for Five race at the end of September. Next up is the Howie Lettow 100 ASA Midwest Tour race on Friday night, 8/25. We will see everyone there and we still have shirts and sweatshirts available for purchase!

Finally a Win at the Dells!

8-5: The 80 team worked very hard the last couple of weeks to get the motor installed back into the car and get it ready for the Dells. We headed out to Dells Raceway Park this past weekend for Twin 50 lap features! The car finally made it to the track around 330 on Saturday just as practice was ending and we got a few laps to shake the car down. For qualifying, the car was way too tight and Ryan qualified 8th of 18 cars.

The first feature was a make up feature from a week prior, so we had to start near the tail and started P13. The car was solid and Ryan drove up to P4 and saved some of his stuff for the second race. We hit the invert for the 2nd feature and started P1 and Ryan got out to a 3.5 second lead for the first 20 laps or so before a caution came out. On the restart, Ryan and Max Kahler raced side by side for many laps before another yellow came out. We took the bottom and pulled away on the restart now in front of Casey Johnson. Casey was tracking the 80 down, but Ryan put some solid laps together late to take the win! Thanks to all of our crew for getting the car back together, our awesome sponsors and all the fans that come out in their 80 gear. We will be back next weekend at Dells for the Badgerland 125!

A Tough Slinger Nationals for the 80

7-11: Ryan and the 80 crew went out to Slinger Super Speedway this past week for the 44th Annual Slinger Nationals. Monday was a full day of practice and tune up and the car had decent speed throughout the day. Tuesday was more practice, qualifying and the big 200 lap race. Ryan qualified the 80 in P18, just outside the top 16 to lock into the show so we had to race our way into the show in the last chance race. We started on the pole in that race and unfortunately in the warm up laps an oil line went and ended our night early. Thanks again for all our sponsors and everyone for coming out….our luck will change at some point. We are targeting 8/5 and 8/12 at Dells Raceway Park for our next shows, but keep an eye on the site for updates.

RFR heads out to Slinger for Nationals Tuneup

7-3: The 80 team celebrated the 4th of July this past weekend by heading out to Slinger to tune up for next weeks Slinger Nationals. We struggled a bit out of the trailer to find speed, but the team continued to work at it with plenty of adjustments. Ryan ended up qualifying in P13 while starting the 75 lap feature in that same position.

The car started off the feature a bit tight, but as the run went on the car came in pretty good. Ryan worked his way methodically up to P11 and was running down P8-P10 before unfortunately the RF tire went flat with 20 to go. All in all, we are optimistic with what we learned for the Nationals. We will be practicing next Monday and then Nationals is Tuesday, July 11th. Hope to see everyone out at Slinger next week!

Another top 5 for the 80 car at DRP!

6-24: Ryan and the 80 team headed back out to the Dells Raceway Park this past weekend for the Trickle 99. This is the 2nd race of 5 in the season long Alive for 5 series. The car came out out the trailer very loose in the first couple of practice sessions, so the crew went to work. We got the car much better by the time qualifying came around and Ryan qualified in P3.

The 99 lapper started a bit early due to rain forecast coming in and Ryan started P6. He worked his way up to P2 behind Devoy and was running him down slowly before a caution came out with 70 to go. Ryan settled into the 4th position for much of the remaining race and that is where we came home to finish. Thanks for everyone braving the heat and rain to cheer us on and our awesome sponsors! Our next race will be next Sunday, July 2nd at Slinger getting ready for the Nationals.

RFR visits the Historic Milwaukee Mile!

6-19: The 80 team headed just down the road to the historic Milwaukee Mile for the STARS National Tour, Fathers Day 100! We had practice on Saturday and the car was not exactly what we were looking for throughout the day, but the team kept gaining on the handling slowly throughout the day. Sunday morning we made a ton of changes and they really helped the car as we then moved into qualifying. Ryan put the car in the show at P17 and we started the 100 lap feature in that same position.

The 100 lapper started and Ryan was bidding his time as the car was still a bit tight. We lost power once again for a brief time after the 2nd restart, but Ryan was able to get the car back on and we lost a lap. We got the free pass at the first stage break and made a bunch more adjustments. The car was continuosly getting better and we ended up finishing the race in P16. Not the result we totally wanted, but the car is in one piece and we head back to Dells next weekend for the Trickle 99!

Tough weekend at Madison for RFR

6-2: RFR headed out to Madison International Speedway last Friday night for the first race of the Alive for 5 Series: The Capital Twin 50s! It was a very hot and humid day, but the 80 came out of the trailer with some solid speed, ending in the top 8 in both practices. Ryan ended up qualifying the car in P3 and with the invert, we started the first 50 lap feature P6.

Ryan settled into the 6th position for much of the race, in front of the 119 and chasing after the 77. With 4 to go, Ryan was sizing up the 77 for one final try at P5 and the car unfortunately just shut off. A caution came out and it fired back up eventually, but we ended P16 in the first race. Justin and the crew went to work to diagnose the problems and we started P17 in the second feature. Ryan worked his way up to around P12 in the first 10 laps before the car unfortunately shut off again.

Thanks again for everyone coming out and to our sponsors! We will likely be back either at Milwaukee or Slinger on Fathers Day, so stay tuned.

Top 5 at Jefferson for Memorial Day!

5-28: Ryan and the 80 team put in big hours over the last month to get a new motor and to get it put back into the car. Big thanks to Mike Tiry for getting the new motor to us quickly!

The 80 team went out to Wisconsin’s Action Track, Jefferson Speedway, over Memorial Day Weekend for the ASA Midwest Tour Salute To The Troops 100. The car was pretty decent out of the trailer in practice as we clocked in 8th spot after the 1st and 2nd practice. The track was a bit greasy and dirty for qualifying and Ryan put the car in the show in P11. The 80 started on the pole in the Odd Dash and ended up winning, with us starting P11 in the 100 lap feature. The car was decent at the start of the race as Ryan settled in P7 for much of the race in front of the 44 and 23. There was a late caution as the leaders tangled, and we ended up coming home P4!

Once again, big thanks to all of our sponsors and fans for all the support. We also take a moment to thank all of our veterans that made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our nation free! Next up for RFR is the first Alive For Five race this Friday at Madison.

RFR opens 2023 quick at Slinger!

4-23: Team RFR started the 2023 season at the Slinger Super Speedway this past weekend for the ASA Midwest Tour Miracle on the High Banks 100. Saturday was practice day and it was a bone chilling and snowy day at the racetrack. We dodged snow showers all day and overall the car was running solid. In the 2 practices on Sunday prior to qualifying, the car was decent as we continued to tune on it. We made some pretty big adjustments prior to qualifying and as the last car out, Ryan put the car on the top of the charts at P1 with a 11.240 second lap!

Ryan started the 100 lap race in P12 and was biding his time while making some moves on the high side, before unfortunately the engine let go with around 70 to go. Our next race will most likely be Slinger on 5/21, assuming everything goes well with the motor repair. Thanks to everyone for coming out and braving the cold and to all of our awesome sponsors.
